Hi Ya'll

Texas, Texas, Texas. Where to begin? Let's start with the people.

YES, people have accents. Not all people mind you, but there are sure plenty of them to go around. Some are really thick and I have asked myself a few times, "are they for real or are they trying to be dramatic?" And on occasion I have to take a minute to figure out what they are saying. For example, our neighbor across the street  told us his name was "MMMIIIIAAAAAKKk". Once he asked what Mac's name was and when I told him he said, "Ah, Mac, and I'm Miiiaakk. Sounds the same when I say it." Ah, Mac and Mike. Got it.

Speaking of neighbors, we sure have some fantastic ones! The couple next door is at least  75 and both retired. We see  them outside a lot and get to chat and catch up on how our town is different than it was in 1964 when his mom moved into the house they currently live in. They are sure a treat. The other day they offered to take us to a local burger joint that they frequent every Saturday night, Nicky D's. We agreed and sure had a great time! It definitely fits in the category of "hole-in-the-wall". It use to be an old gas station and my clothes still smell like grease. Means it was  good, right!? Sure was. Here are some pics that I snapped on my way to the bathrooms (outside mind you).

We were SO very lucky to have a place to rent when we arrived. It is a great house and we have enjoyed the backyard and many other things about it. Here it is:

I will be happy to not have a house that is entirely tiled on the inside (except the bedrooms). It sure can get loud in here.

Well, I'll sign off for now but I am sure there will be more to come about Texas.

P&B
